Hey! Hey!
It’s Friday and I am here with a super Fun Email™! Before we get into it, I just wanted to remind you that the application deadline for my 10-week Type Design Development Workshop is this Sunday, May 25th! There are only a few spots left!! I am also teaching another Crash Course In Type Design this summer as well if that’s more your speed (start date is June 2nd)!
Today we’re looking at old yearbooks. A while ago, I stumbled across one on Archive.org and immediately fell into a research rabbit hole and knew that I needed to share these with you!
It’s that time of year — summer is so close we can almost taste it! If we were still kids, it would almost be the last day of the school year and we’d be not-so-patiently sitting through our final classes waiting for the last bell to chime. The best part about youth is that you get 3 whole months off to do literally nothing and have not one ounce of guilt about it!!
Well I am hoping that we can siphon off some of that high by taking a look at some truly nostalgic images. All the yearbooks below come from a time before digital printing made everything boring (but accessible!) and the yearbook committees had to get scrappy! There’s a lot of charm in the pre-digital era that needs to make a comeback. How fun would it be to have been to be on a yearbook committee in the 70s? Can you imagine the power dynamics??
Anyways, enjoy these! You can click the title of each yearbook to view the whole thing. And if you’d like to look at more, search “yearbook” on archive.org. It’s a treasure trove!
