Hey y’all!
Happy Friday! I hope you didn’t notice that I was supposed to send an email last Friday. I had a lot going on and honestly didn’t have much to share, typographically speaking.
I’ve been thinking about what the future will look like for me and Type Du Nord, so I thought this might be a great opportunity to share some of my goals. One of my favorite authors, Octavia Butler, wrote down affirmations and predicted her own success in the back of a notebook before she was well known. I’d like to try out the same exercise and shed some light on my hopes, aspirations, and goals for the future.
Here are mine:
I will not be afraid to show my work.
I will have a fully functioning type foundry by the end of 2022 (website and all!!).
I will start teaching type design in 2023.
I will have my first public speaking engagement by the end of 2023.
I will find ways outside of institutions to educate and share my knowledge with others.
I will create typefaces that are recognizable for the way they intersect art and functionality.
My work will seen by a lot more people than I am comfortable with.
I will have fun with my work even if I have to be business-y about it.
So be it and see to it!!
Please hold me to it— you all get to yell at me on January 1st if my website isn’t done!! I recommend doing this for yourself and sharing it with someone. I think that’s the key. Now that I’ve told y’all about it, I feel like I have to do it or you will all hate my guts!
5 Things I’m Into Lately:
I took Jessica Hische’s class, The Dark Art of Creative Business, recently. It was really great! I highly recommend it.
I started working some shifts at my local yarn shop a couple months ago and I finally made a playlist for when I’m working there! Here it is. <3
My friend and genuinely cool guy, Kel Troughton, is teaching another 10-week Intro to Modern Type Design class. I TA’d this class last year and it was so great. There are only a few days left to sign up!
I plan to watch the movie Practical Magic this weekend because we finally have fall weather and the movie is so good!! 90’s Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman — what more could we ask for??
In my last email, I shared my frog house but I neglected to include a pic of Mr. Frog so here he is!
Have a cozy weekend!
Libbie
