Hey y’all!
It’s good to be back. I apologize for the hiatus! I am bringing you a little Yolker update on this lovely Friday evening! Life has been a little chaotic so my work on my fave egg font is coming together in fits and spurts! Despite it all, I am happy at where this is at. Things always take way longer than I think!!
This is such a fun project to work on but is deceptively tricky. I am fighting with everything I’ve got to make it legible while keeping the “eggy” feel. It’s truly a great challenge but the letters are only really readable in the context of a word — not on their own. Don’t tell my old type west instructors!!
Basically all that is left is some punctuation marks and finessing the spacing and kerning. The final family will be a yolk, yolkless, and outline version. Personally, yolkless is my fave (and honestly the most usable)! I also made a pretty robust set of diacritics/accent marks because I want to include as many people as possible, it was really fun, and some characters are just ridiculous in egg form. I hope I did egg diacritics justice!!
The last thing I want to mention is that there are still a couple spots left in my class! It starts on Tuesday!! It’s v v fun and you will learn a lot!! Click here to read more and/or sign up!
5 Things I’m Into Right now
I am trying to resuscitate my drawing skills and have been keeping a sketchbook lately! I do a little sketch every morning before I start my work for the day and it’s been really nice. I don’t put any pressure on it and the sketch doesn’t have to be of letters. It can be anything I want! It’s been good to reconnect with good old pen/marker/pencil and paper. This is the sketchbook I’ve been using and it’s the perfect size and paper weight for me! Maybe I’ll share some of my sketches in the future.
I, like everyone else, am having a Chappell Roan phase. I can’t get HOT TO GO! out of my head!!
For the last couple months, I have become one of those people who runs and is flirting with the idea of training for a marathon. Honestly, I hate to say this, but everything they say is right. Exercising regularly helps everything. I have been feeling better mentally, physically, and emotionally and I am really annoyed that it’s this simple!! I am doing the C210K program right now and loving it!! There’s a great app for it by Zen Labs.
I recently discovered a new way to write to-do lists and it’s called the Ludwig method. Lists without a specified order stress me out and this is a nice way to visualize the day without feeling super scheduled. Highly recommend!
Friend and fellow regular-cadence-font-releaser, Tamara Pilz, started Font Fan Club a few months ago and is releasing some absolute bangers!! Her latest, Pixxi, is everything I’ve ever wanted in a typeface.
That’s all she wrote,
