TGIAH! (Thank god it’s almost Halloween!!)
I hope you’re having a spooky little week and that you have fun plans for the weekend (if you are a fan of halloween!). I obviously am a fan and I am dressing up as Shrek this year — bald cap and all! I will be practicing my Scottish accent by the time you read this.
This week’s font is, of course, on theme for the holiday. When I asked for ideas a couple weeks ago, there were a lot of suggestions for a spooky font and I’m happy to oblige! I was inspired by horror movie posters and halloween/spooky typefaces. I started out with some sketches on Monday and some of you kindly voted for your faves. Y’all selected the creepy condensed option that was inspired by spider legs but after I digitized it, it wouldn’t cooperate. It felt so cheesy so I tried the runner-up: thorny serif. This time it was way more fun-spooky than bad-spooky!
It gives me major mystical/witchy vibes! The only letters I struggled with were P (random) and S (classic). Adding the star shape/thorns to the round letters was a little odd but overall I’m happy with my solutions! There’s also a star shape for you to use in the bullet character. :)
In the end, this font definitely has uses outside of spooky themed things, but it would be so perfect for a halloween cocktail menu, a spooky themed disco, or pumpkin patch signage! As always, thanks for being here and I love having y’all participate in what I make! It is definitely making this whole experience very enjoyable. For next week, I’m thinking either “allergic to gravity” or maybe a revival?? We will see!
5 Things I’m Into This Week:
Last night, I watched the 1978 film, Halloween. It was good! I loved seeing the outfits from the 70’s and it would make for a great group costume.
My favorite ghost story podcast that has been releasing new episodes recently: Spooked. This one actually scares me!
I’m partway through the book Lisey’s Story by Stephen King. So far it’s good but I’m still waiting for something scary to happen!
Probably eating all the candy for tricker-treaters before Sunday tbh.
I’m putting together a spooky playlist to listen to this weekend — send me your fave halloween tunes!
Creep it real,
Libbie
P.s. — I have gotten feedback that Gumroad has made it difficult for some of you to donate! I am working on my foundry site but in the meantime, I set up a Ko-Fi page for those who want to donate! It’s certainly not required but it will be in the footer of these emails going forward. I appreciate those who reached out and those who have donated!!
