Happy Friday y’all!
I’m coming to you fully taxed and nearly vaxxed! I am giving off major admin energy this week as I put my taxes off to the last minute (classic). Picture me buried in receipts, calculator app open, and on the phone with my health insurance company that forgot to send me the right forms. Oofta.
This week’s font began as a little question from my Font Ideas list that read, “font made from circles???”. I don’t know what past Libbie had in mind when she wrote that. In Procreate, I began with a grid of circles and started cutting letters out of it. It was a simultaneously straight-forward and brain-melting process. I had to think outside the box with letters like S, X, and Z.
At first, I hated it so I started designing two other fonts; a wide reverse contrast and a connected script (lmao). I kept going back and forth between all three when finally my partner (Alexander the babe) convinced me that this one was the coolest. Now that it’s finished, I can see that he was right. I will definitely come back to the other two down the line — I’ll save the script for when I don’t feel like sleeping.
Mrs Barb is a somewhat legible, and highly decorative typeface. It’s part barbed wire, part cross stitch font, and a pinch of gothic architecture. It’s also somehow more legible at smaller sizes — someone scientific please explain! It has caps, numbers, and a lil bit of punctuation. I’m picturing this on a jam label or cheesy home decor. The em dash can also be used as a fun border or decoration. Enjoy!!
Have a great weekend!
Libbie
