Hello!! Happy Friday y’all!
Anyone else have a doozy of a week?? I am going to keep this short because I’m tired and my proofreader (aka my partner) isn’t here (rude). If there are spelling or grammatical mistakes, it’s 100% his fault. I take no responsibility whatsoever.
For this week’s project, I decided it was high time that I revisited my Type West typeface (say that 5 times fast). I was a little intimidated by it for a while because I feel like it needed a lot of work. So I began, as one always should, with a proof and a red pen. The proof had A LOT of red marks on it at the end. This is when I had a real come to Jesus moment with myself — do I really need to redesign the whole thing or can I just redo the spacing, some point placement, and fix a couple ugly bits?? Sometimes it’s hard for me to be realistic about the timeframe of this weekly project. And so I took the easier route because part of me feels very sentimental about this one and it is actually a lot more functional with better spacing.
For a little background, my TW project started with a lot of sketches that eventually ended up with the ones shown above. I experimented quite a bit after digitizing and eventually ended up with what is very close to this week’s version. I knew I wanted to make something that was fun, high contrast, and kind of weird. I didn’t put any expectations on the end result — just let the process take me where it wanted to go.
Now looking at it with fresh eyes, I see a lot of potential for an overhaul. If it ever gets a legit release, it will definitely need one. But for now, it’s quirky and energetic. Good for posters, packaging, and party invites (the three p’s). Anyhoo, have a good weekend and I’ll see you next week!
5 Things I’m Into This Week
Seth Rogen’s book, Yearbook. Admittedly this is a little off-brand but I caught myself actually laughing out loud while reading it and that’s something that reading never makes me do!
The movie When Harry Met Sally. I know I’m about 30 years late to this party but I had never seen it. I watched it this week and damn, I think I’m ruined for all other romcoms now.
The song Sunflower Seeds by The Orielles.
I’ve been listening to the Murdaugh Murders podcast and it’s good! Twists and turns!
Deleting all your social media apps from your phone and then getting so bored that you actually read a book (for once), watch an 80’s romcom, and listen to lots of podcasts and music.
Ta ta for now,
Libbie
