Week 45: Pulp

The week I drew my A backwards </3

Hi hi hi! It’s Friday! 

I’m bringing you romance novel vibes this week. It was unintentional at first and then I decided to embrace it. I haven’t made anything bold and high contrast in a while! Felt good to be make something semi-normal for once.

If I’m being 100% honest with you, I had a very rough start to the week. I could not come up with a single good idea. Sometimes it happens but this week was especially tough! I didn’t start digitizing my idea until Wednesday(!!). I sketched for most of the day Monday and Tuesday but then finally on Wednesday, something halfway decent came out of my brain. It was a typecooker that had flared stems, high contrast, and a lot of weight. My original sketch was going to have the letters connect/bump into each other but when I started digitizing, it was pretty headache-inducing. It also looked weirdly pointy and so I added some serifs. After that, I let the design take the lead and somehow ended up here. 

I showed it to beloved friend, Tommi. She pointed it out that it has a similar vibe as vintage romance novel covers. It truly does look it’s best when it’s really big! The flared stems make it really great for anything romantic, flavorful, or noisy. Think tasty drinks, cute short films, or a hip band. 

Next week, I will make something with these Milwaukee Transit Passes! Maybe a couple sets of ultra-decorative numbers?? We will see! It was a special request from my other beloved friend, Lauren. I couldn’t possible say no to her. See you next week!! 

5 Things I’m Into This Week:

1. I watched Inventing Anna on Netflix. I love a good grifter story!! 

2. Secondly, the music from the aforementioned show is great on a running playlist.

3. I’ve had a can’t stop/won’t stop approach to making PB&J sandwiches this week! I forgot how delicious they are. Also Laura Scudder’s is the best peanut butter and I dare you to prove me wrong.

4. Actually just knitting nonstop. <3

5. I am thinking about making a tiktok account to document some silly BTS type design stuff (and probs knitting too tbh). Please reply and tell me if you think this is a fun or lame idea!!
