Hey y’all! Hap Fri!
How have y’all been?? Did you enjoy having a guest last week?? Tommi did such a good job with Cortinas. I had been thinking about featuring someone on here and it worked out so well! She’s great and you should definitely sign up for her newsletter if you haven’t already. We can expect some really cool stuff in the future from her!
On the subject of cool stuff, The Weekly Typographic talked about my project on their podcast this morning!! It was a real treat to wake up to and if you don’t already listen, you should go check them out. There are some new faces around here because of it and I’m so stoked to have all of you.
This week I am bringing you a weird one! This is Buds’ redemption arc because it’s my least favorite font from this project. I love the flower concept and this week is my attempt to revisit it! It kind of went on it’s own journey away from the flower idea and into sea creature territory. Sea themed things are not off-brand so I’m cool with it.
The idea popped into my head a couple weeks ago when the movie Fantasia came up in conversation. It’s one of my favorite childhood movies and the part with the dancing flowers was always my favorite. For some reason, my brain was immediately like Fantasia flowers = font??? Truly random!!
The process for Buds II was a little hectic! I drew most of the letters on paper before I went into digitizing anything. Tracing the drawings with the pen tool was taking way too long with all the curves, so I did the most chaotic thing ever — I drew a rough outline of all of them with the pencil tool and then went through and cleaned them up. I’m not sure if I recommend doing that but it definitely sped up the process! This font is still very much in the work-in-progress stage. Doing something so wild was definitely an undertaking. I picture it being used for some mermaid themed skin care products, or at a waterpark. At a glance, it kind of looks like one of those sexy lady fonts, but let’s just ignore that.
It’s so crazy that there are only three weeks left! Next week, I have a space themed font in store! Ttys <3
5 Things I’m Into This Week:
My recent discovery of the song “Let’s Have A Kiki” by the Scissor Sisters. I know I’m like 100 years behind the times with this one but it’s fun to dance to.
I started a Tiktok (gaaaah)! My username is @libbiebischoff.
I’m planning to do a zine at the end of our 52 Weeks together and so I’ve been doing a lot of zine research! My fave so far is by an artist that goes by @krustywheatfield on Instagram. Their Squanderlust #6 zine is 🔥🔥🔥. If you have a favorite zine, please share!!
I got to swim in a pool last weekend and it had been way too long! I truly turn into a five year old around pools.
I also recently purchased this sun hat from Baggu and I’ve used it so much already. It’s ridiculously large but so nice for hiding your face from the sun.
‘Til next week,
Libbie
