Hey y’all! Happy Friday!
Hope you’re all absolutely killing it this week. I have something really fun for you! After last week, I’m sure you’re all relieved to get some “normal” from me! It’s a revival font that I found in a space zine from 1965. I read little bits of it and it’s absolutely nuts. The main theme is god loves the US and wants us to conquer space. Sooo not chill. But the font is sick so we’re running with it.
I found the zine at an antique store in Palm Springs a couple weekends ago. I was absolutely geeking out over the type. Sometimes you just gotta. The zine was definitely written via a typewriter and then photocopied. I just don’t understand how they found such an on-theme font from a typewriter. Like it really does give futuristic space vibes. Can any typewriter nerds identify the machine for me? I might buy one and write letters to future me.
The process was as straightforward as any revival is. I pretty much started with a 1:1 copy while digitizing but ended up narrowing a couple letters to help with the spacing. Spacing a monospace font is notoriously tricky. You have to accept that it’s going to be a little ugly and just do the best you can.
Please use this for all your space zines! It’s weirdly good at text sizes but funky enough to be used at larger sizes. I hope you have a great weekend! There’s only two fonts left!!
5 Things I’m Into This Week:
My bff, Kat, showed me the song Autonomy by Boy Harsher and Lucy. It’s honestly the best summer jam ever.
Toast with Brie and some mango jam (jam courtesy of my Grandma Kitty). Even though it gives me a stomach ache, I can’t stop eating it.
The movie, 20th Century Women. I watched it recently and it was great. It deserves to be more popular than it is!
I’m not sure if I’ve ever recommended this but the Every Outfit podcast is one of my top faves lately. It’s by the same people behind the instagram account @everyoutfitonsatc. It’s lightly Sex and The City themed but mostly about pop culture. I love the hosts and have been listening every week for a while now!
Asking for help when you need it. <3
