Hey y’all!
Welcome to the second-to-last Friday of this project! It’s crazy how fast it’s gone. Don’t hate me for saying this but I’m so excited to make fonts on a normal timeline after this. It will be so refreshing.
I am bringing you another revival this week! It’s a little art nouveau sans from an ad in a 1950’s LIFE magazine. It was being used as decor in a house we were staying at in Colorado. And of course, I took like 100 photos of the ads inside it.
The process for this one was pretty straightforward — I didn’t change much from the original. I like the distilled art nouveau vibes. After digitizing, it looks more futuristic. So wild how that can happen sometimes.
One of my struggles with this one was drawing the D. I hate how droopy it is but it was the right decision to make for the style. Tommi had the great idea of adding some Lombardic capitals for the T & H but I didn’t have a chance to try it out. Maybe I’ll revisit it in the future.
Anyways, that’s all from me this week. Please use Antiseptic for all your futuristic Art Nouveau projects. It would be great on a psychedelic poster or packaging for antiseptic baby oil. Next week is the final font!! I can’t even believe it. I am going to cry big gross tears next week. </3
5 Things I’m Into This Week:
Friend and Type West alum, Chris Skillern (of Tulsey Type), was on the Weekly Typographic Podcast last week! Definitely give it a listen.
On the subject of podcasts, Ohno Radio’s episode with Fabiola Mejía was a great listen if you’re like me and super interested in the subject of starting a type foundry.
I rediscovered an old Dr. Dog song, The Old Days. Coincidentally, it reminds me of the old days.
I finally recorded myself making a font. It’s sped up by like 6000% lol. Check it out here.
I’m loving working on the zine!! Graphic design can be fun!! Maybe I’ll give you a little sneak peak next week. I would love to include a spread of how y’all have used these fonts. If you have a use case that you’re down for me to include (with credit obvs), please send me an email!
Peace out,
Libbie
