TDN Monthly Update 02

Happy Feb y’all!
This has been truly a great month — I get so much out of writing to you all!! Although, I am feeling (and have been feeling this for a long time) that this email is too one-sided. I love the comments and replies I get from some of you, but I want more! A big perk of writing these emails for me is the built-in accountability that comes with it. I don’t know if I would’ve made it this far without this newsletter! Because of this, I’d love to extend a similar opportunity to you.
Therefore as a new perk of the paid subscription, I am starting an accountability club discord server. It’s something that I have needed for a long time and I am guessing there are some of you out there that need it too! It will be open to anyone (not just type people) that have personal goals that you want to achieve but are struggling to stay on track. I am thinking that we’ll have weekly check-ins, co-working sessions, a feedback channel, and lots of cheering each other on!
For now it’s called the TDN Accountability Club, but maybe club members will help me think of a cooler name!! Like I said above, it will be part of the paid subscription. So when you sign up here on substack, you’ll receive an invite to join the server. I find that accountability works best when you have stake in the game. <3
Alrighty!! Now let’s get into it! January was mostly a catch up month — I dove back into production on a couple fonts and am thinking about some fun TDN merch!
Fonts In Progress:
Weightless (75% complete)
A six-style, monospace type family based off of the Olympia Typewriter font, Senatorial. The original design dates back to the 60’s but I think it feels very modern. I chipped away at the light style and played with the italic! Very excited about how useful this is!
Mr Rightside (10% complete)
While still in the early stages, this one has been a favorite of mine since its birth in the 52 Fonts project. It needs a new name and lots of work but the new high contrast bold style has resurrected this project for me. I don’t have a solid plan for this one yet but I am hoping the concept guides me!
Merch:
Going to order samples this week of a “Font Maker, Heart Breaker” trucker hat and a TDN brand dad hat. Very excited!! Just need to find a company to order these through. If you have US-based recs, please send them my way!!
GOALS FOR FEBRUARY
Website (scary task)
My number one goal for this month is to wrap up my website! It has about 10% left and honestly it feels like the hardest part. But I am saying it here so that I have to just shut up and get it done!! It is truly the biggest hurdle but will open up so many opportunities like blogging and I don’t know… selling fonts?!
Weightless (mindless task)
I’d like to finish all the styles and have them in the final testing stage by the end of the month. I want to release the family shortly after the website launches! This means finalizing the italic and then fleshing out the different weights for each style.
Mr Rightside (fun task)
I am not setting any specific goals for this one but I will use it to take breaks from the more serious work above! I tend to procrastinate very intensely if I only have scary things on my plate so having a fun project to play with helps!
