Hi there <3
Thanks for indulging me in my last update! It felt really nice to have a little confessional with y’all. I have some fun things to share with you this week!
Discussion Item No. 1 is an update to Mr Rightside. I mentioned a lil while back that I wanted to try a version that would work at a smaller text size and here it is! I did a small set of letters because I’m not sure if I love or hate it. In the context of a full family it makes sense but on its own it feels a little too similar to those cursive worksheets that us ~*older*~ generations had to do in second grade.
Creating the middle style in between the original Mr Rightside and this new smaller version, would likely help me decide where it falls on the love-hate spectrum. If you have thoughts or opinions, I’d love to hear them!
Item No. 2 is this logo I made for my forthcoming knitting newsletter, Libbie’s Lab. I want to create a little space for my knitting experiments to live and that, of course, needed a logo. It’s smooshy and fun — just like knitting. There’s no real reason for this type style other than I like it and it’s sort of like if Socko had a little lowercase italic baby. You can watch a hyper-speed process video here!
Item No. 3 is productivity related. I work in a corner of our dining room and it’s very open. Though I love my spot because it’s next to two windows and the heater, it’s a little too distracting as I can see the whole house. So to fix the problem, I bought this giant room divider from Ikea. It has basically cubicalized my corner and I absolutely love it. It’s my own personal sensory deprivation corner. It’s very reminiscent of my first design job where I sat in a sad-beige cubicle in a far off corner of our floor. It was truly the most productive I have ever been in my whole career!! I <3 felted beige productivity jails. I might have to make a Type Du Nord HQ sign for it to spice it up though!
I have seen a thousand of these online recently so I want in!! This is a riff on Proof & Co’s gift list that is filled with beautiful type ephemera and goodies! This list is for the type designers in your life.
7 GIFT IDEAS FOR TYPE DESIGNERS
<3 Things we would genuinely love <3
An inky black marker paired with a white out pen.
A ream or two of cheap white printer paper. Pairs well with a trash can or paper shredder.
A bunch of old calligraphy nibs that you found at the antique store. The cruddier the better.
An assortment of the weirdest paint brushes you could find at your local art store.
A b/w printer that prints to AT LEAST 1200dpi.
An old piece of type ephemera from their favorite city. Like this old subway roll sign!
Buy their whole type library and say nothing.
See you in a couple weeks,
Libbie
Thank you! Let me know when it is as it is lovely and fun at the same time.
Love Mr. Rightside in display. The text size is cute, but not sure about readability for long texts :) But really love big Mr. Rightside. Is it available for purchase?
