Week 35: Stilt House II
By the time you read this, I'll have a stomach ache from too much eggnog.
Hey y’all!
Happy Holidays!! I hope that you all get some R&R for the last bit of 2021. We all deserve it.
This week, I wanted to do something that is more fun-production-work instead of intensive-brain-work. I picked Stilt House (from Week 14) to bring back for another round. This one was only numbers and punctuation but no letters. In my head, it would be easy and fun to update because it has strict rules and uses geometric forms.
Initially, my plan was to do just one set of caps and use unicase forms to make it more interesting. Unicase is when you utilize lowercase forms in an uppercase setting. There are typically no descenders. It’s a brain tickler because there aren’t any set rules. You can sub in whatever lowercase letters you want but it still has to feel intentional. As I was making the first set, it looked very scattered and a little too bouncy. Therefore, I decided to add a “boring” uppercase to offset the bounciness of the lowercase forms. This way if a word isn’t flowing right, you can sub in a letter from the other set. It makes for some fun customizations and more usability.
In the end, I would definitely find this useful if I was making a naughty or nice list for Santa, fun holiday recipes, or a last minute card you have to make at midnight on Christmas Eve. I had fun little time making Stilt House II this week! Next week, I will definitely be doing something similarly easy, breezy, and beautiful. I hope y’all have an amazing weekend!!
