Happy Friday y’all!
I am bringing you another version of Backflip. This time in a lighter weight and variable!!
I really struggled to pick what I was going to work on this week. I tried to draw a bunch of options and went through my idea list but none of it clicked. Would we call this type design block? Letter block?? Typer’s block??? I’m not sure but I definitely had it!
It’s during weeks like these that I decide to pull in a 52 Fonts fave — Backflip. Now this is technically the fourth time I’ve brought this back — if you count Backflip Mono. I’m counting this one as 3 because it’s part of the original design. If you recall, I started with caps, then made lowercase, and now I’ve made a light weight! Would it be fun to bring it back for an italic version before 52 Fonts is done?? Probs!
The process for Backflip 3 was pretty straightforward. I made a test word so that I could make adjustments to the weight and my approach before I apply it to the whole character set. After I had the weight correct, it was smooth sailing. I just worked my way down the alphabet!
I hope you enjoy this third version of Backflip! I can see it used in replacement of a clunky slab serif. Maybe it could be used on a poster or a can of your favorite beverage. Have fun regardless! See you next week!
